Platform: A Spectacular Virtual Conference Platform

Dear Adult Education Colleagues,

The CAEP welcomes you to submit a proposal to present a session at the upcoming CAEP Summit 2020 to be held on a spectacular virtual conference platform, October 26-29, 2020. The Summit will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. each day.

Adult Education is at a crossroads. The COVID-19 induced pandemic, the state of the economy and unrest has pivoted adult education programs into uncharted territory, but CA adult educators continue to rise to the challenge. The CAEP Summit 2020 is an opportunity for you to share and discuss innovative and effective promising practices, strategies, and other resources related to technology and distance learning, student support services, transition services, partnerships, equity and cultural responsiveness, data and accountability, and more.

Proposal submission deadline: September 10, 2020. Applicants will be notified by: September 18, 2020.

Registration Note

Presentation proposals are separate from registration.

If the proposal is approved, the lead presenter and all co-presenters will be notified and sent registration information. All lead presenters and co-presenters will be required to register for the Summit in order to attend, even if the presentation was accepted.

There is no cost to present or attend the Summit. Each presenter will need to register to present at the Summit.

  • All presenters must have a dedicated laptop or desktop computer to present at the Summit.
  • All presenters must have a stable WiFi connection or hard-wired internet connection.
  • All presenters must participate in a CAEP TAP provided Presenter Training covering how to use the virtual platform and manage session, audio and technology, and more.
  • All presenters much participate in a scheduled run through with a CAEP TAP staff person prior to the Summit.
  • All shareable resources must be in the following document types: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and PDF.
  • All shareable resources must be 508 compliant/accessible.
  • To ensure success of the virtual sessions, all presenters must include attendee engagement activities.
  • All presenters will need to register for the Summit.

Program Strands

Leadership (legislation, policy, fiscal, NOVA, staffing, systems design, team building, challenging conversations, managing telecommuting)
This strand will highlight sessions that deal with important things leaders need to know about successfully managing a consortium. Sessions might focus on regional and local policies, developing systems, or managing staff during these challenging times.
Marketing (learner recruitment, community awareness)
Marketing programs and learner recruitment are ongoing responsibilities for consortium members. It is also vital that local communities understand and support regional consortiums. Sessions in this strand should share successful marketing strategies and practices.
Curriculum (curriculum alignment, evaluating and selecting online content, social and emotional learning, contextualized instruction)
Presentations in this strand could address any aspect of curriculum use and implementation. Sessions might focus on curriculum alignment, contextualized instruction, selecting online content, or even highlighting successful use of commercial or locally developed curriculum in the core areas of ESL, basic skills, HSE, CTE, etc.
Technology and Distance Learning (evaluating and selecting online content, supporting learners at a distance, blended learning)
The COVID-19 pandemic has radically altered how we deliver instruction to learners. Sessions in this strand should focus on anything relating to reaching and serving adult learners at a distance.
Program Development (annual planning, 3-year planning, building partnerships, student support, family and community engagement, leveraging funding, family literacy, integrated education and training, Navigators, Census 2020, Visions for Success and Guided Pathways)
Constant program improvement is at the core of building stronger and relevant consortiums. Sessions in this strand could focus on any of the seven program areas, annual and 3-year planning, building partnerships, leveraging funding, or implementing specialized programs.
Program Evaluation (learner assessment, data collection and reporting, accountability)
Program evaluation is essential for improving programs and reporting outcomes to funders. Sessions in this strand should focus on data collection and reporting, accountability, or any other aspect relating to program evaluation.
Equity (cultural awareness, cultural responsiveness)
Equity is about being fair and impartial with learners, partners, and the communities we serve. Workshop sessions in this strand should focus on methods for building cultural awareness and responsiveness.
Learner Transition (college and career pathways, transition supports, counseling and services)
Moving learners along in career paths or other goals is one measure of how we determine success. Sessions in this strand might focus on college and career pathways, transition supports, or counseling and support services.
